Women Leading The AI Industry: Featured on Thrive Global

“Women have no disadvantage unless they think they do.” with Heather Logrippo and Tyler Gallagher

As part of my series about the women leading the Artificial Intelligence industry, I had the pleasure of interviewing Heather Logrippo, co-founder of USCHAG and founder of MomBomb.org. USCHAG was created to help consumers take back control of their healthcare. Without an allegiance to anyone but the consumer, USCHAG provides guidance and advocacy for patients and families by solving problems related to healthcare when, inevitably, they hit a brick wall. It welcomes all American consumers to join in our mission to empower the people who pay for healthcare. Logrippo can be reached at HLogrippo@USCHAG.com

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you share with us the ‘backstory” of how you decided to pursue this career path?

I became very ill in 2017, so much so that I could not run my businesses or function at all. It was a harrowing experience for many reasons, insurance companies who wouldn’t authorize medications/specialists, doctors who didn’t have the time to really investigate the cause of my illness, and lack of advocacy caused me to want to be at the ethos of the change of the Healthcare industry. AI is a vital component to this.

What lessons can others learn from your story?

Challenges are all how you look at them. I made it my mission to never have another person go through what I did and it’s fueled my passion and action to help make big changes in the industry.

Can you tell our readers about the most interesting projects you are working on now?

There are two. One of them is incorporating deep learning AI with humans to increase the efficiency of the healthcare system, while being beholden to no one but the American Consumer. Most companies trying to change healthcare are trying to protect existing revenue streams which doesn’t solve the problem at its ethos. We have used deep learning AI overlaid with massive amounts of data to enhance what compassionate humans who work in healthcare can do when it comes to taking care of the American Consumer.

The other exciting thing is our non profit MomBomb.org. We are able to help mothers in crisis, as a result of our commitment to donating profits of our bath bombs to the non profit. This is a way to self fund our philanthropic endeavors, and as someone who went through the torture of being a mother in a health crisis, this cause is very near and dear to my heart.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

There is a person who shall remain nameless who has allowed this all to be possible. He is a human anomaly. His IQ is higher than Albert Einstein and his EQ is just as high. He’s sold companies to Space X and run companies that would blow you away, and he’s under 40. This person has set up the infrastructure for USCHAG to actually change the way Heathcare is handled in the US — from having 2 Supreme Court Justices look over our first of its kind power of Attorney so that we can act as if we are the patient when advocating for them, to getting our patents in order and setting up the systems to ensure we are the pioneers of this new frontier when it comes to AI and Healthcare. He’s also given me more than I could ever give him. He’s challenged me to look at things in different ways, has taught me to believe in myself and is the most kind, and patient man in the world. This whole thing would not be possible without him.

What are the 5 things that most excite you about the AI industry? Why?

The fact that AI is going to be able, within 18 months of having your medical data, be able to tell you what exposure your grandchildren’s grandchildren have to certain diseases and what you can do about it now.

It will allow us to make correlations that will help save lives. Because of the immense amount of data and the fact that deep learning AI acts the same as the cerebral cortex, but supercharged, it will be able to find trends in diseases, cures, and so much more.

What are the 5 things that concern you about the AI industry? Why?

Obviously bias in AI, as innocuous as it can be, can influence the output. This is something that will be tweaked over time to gradually address any issues that crop up.

Regulation concerns me. It’s tough when people who don’t understand your industry try to legislate it, of course.

As you know, there is an ongoing debate between prominent scientists, (personified as a debate between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg,) about whether advanced AI has the future potential to pose a danger to humanity. What is your position about this?

I believe that AI is simply an enhancement. It can do the things humans don’t want to do — the drudge work, so that we, as humans, can use our skills in different ways. AI will make people more productive, but it won’t replace or endanger humanity in any way.

What can be done to prevent such concerns from materializing? And what can be done to assure the public that there is nothing to be concerned about?

Showing the public how AI helps people, saves people’s lives will be one way…..

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world? Can you share a story?

As you know, there are not that many women in your industry. Can you share 3 things that you would you advise to other women in the AI space to thrive?

Be open to the possibilities. Even if you don’t “understand” it, explore it, get educated and find someone who believes in you. Having that Sherpa made all of the difference in the world to me.

Can you advise what is needed to engage more women into the AI industry?

Like any industry — Women have to show up, feel they can compete and be a sponge for information. Women have no disadvantage unless they think they do 😉

What is your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that had relevance to your own life?

You can have a deal with a good person go bad but you can never have a deal with a bad person go well. Money isn’t important at the end of the day. Do the right things, especially when you don’t want to, and the money comes.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

I would say USCHAG is the answer to that question!
